What are Contractions?
A contraction is a shortened version of the written and spoken forms of a word, syllable, or word group, created by omission of internal letters and sounds. Contractions are structure words that are reduced or shortened, i.e. I will = I’ll; can not = can’t. Such two-word contractions are commonly used in spoken English.
